David Grau, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, School of Sustainable Engineering and The Built Environment; Senior Sustainability Scientist, Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, Arizona State University

Dr. Grau is a faculty member at the School of Sustainable Engineering and The Built Environment at Arizona State University with over 20 years of experience in research, education, and practice. His research work is highlighted for its strong impact on industry organizations and covers novel sensing and information technologies, innovative performance assessment mechanisms, and health and safety. His recent work has unveiled the lack of a worker health consideration during planning and design efforts as well as the need to collect and associate gender data with safety incidents at project sites. He is the recipient of numerous teaching and research awards. Complementing his academic career, he has worked in the private industry for more than eight years as the program manager for heavy industrial projects and as the director of a large engineering department. He has led large interdisciplinary and multicultural teams to deliver numerous capital facility projects in South America, Africa, and Europe. Dr. Grau holds a professional license as an Industrial Engineer in Europe.
